Confluence Chapter History

On June 2, 1996, women from a wide range of professions and ages were invited to a reception to hear the TLOD story. Fourteen of the women at the reception committed to being charter members of the new chapter. The chapter was named "Confluence" at the suggestion of Lord John Moten.

The summer was spent planning the chartering ceremonies, the induction of new members and the installation of officers. In September 1996, the Confluence Chapter Elect hosted a gala, which was called "Jazz and all that Jazz and a Taste of Soul." The event held at the Barrington Downs Clubhouse was the debut of the Confluence Chapter Elect.

Lady Dorothy Buckhanan, the TLOD Area III Director, conducted the orientation for the new members on October 18, 1996 at the Embassy Suites Hotel. On October 19, 1996, Lady Dorothy conducted three ceremonies: the induction of new members, the chartering ceremony and the installation of officers. These ceremonies were held on the campus of University of Missouri-St. Louis.

The charter members of the Confluence Chapter were: Ladies Patricia Beckwith*, Marie Brown, Linda Burnside, Mamie Cleaves, Donna Crosswhite, Deloris Green, Carla Harper, Linda Jarman, Pamela Johnson, Adrianne Mann, Emma Moten*, Juanita Thomas, Geanette Walls and Brenda Young. Lady Brenda Stith Loftin was listed as the chapter organizer and Ladies Jacquelyn Harris, Josephine Harvey and Jerilyn Bowie Hill were listed as consultants. Ladies Brenda Stith Loftin, Jacquelyn Harris and Jerilyn Bowie Hill immediately transferred their membership from their original chapter in order to become members of the Confluence Chapter.

The first president was Lady Brenda Young and other presidents have been Lady Linda Jarman, Lady Linda Shaw, Lady Adrianne Mann, Lady Jacquelyn Harris, Lady Mavis Merritt, Lady Ninfa Matiase and Lady Tracy Reed.

The current president is Lady Mavis Merritt.

The Confluence Chapter celebrated its 20th Anniversary in October 2016.
